Answer.

Cleanliness is Next to Godliness

It is rightly said that cleanliness is next to godliness. God lives at a clean place. It is the responsibility of each individual to maintain cleanliness in the surroundings. We should not throw pieces of papers and wrappers here and there. Dustbins have been placed in the streets by the government. So, the garbage must be thrown in the dustbins. People should not throw the waste of the kitchen outside. It must be thrown at a proper place specified by the authorities concerned. We should plant and safeguard trees. Cleanliness saves us from many fatal diseases. We also get fresh air and oxygen in the absence of heaps of garbage. The habit of not throwing the waste material in streets may lead us to the state of ecstasy. The common masses must be educated through awareness campaigns to maintain cleanliness. Those who are aware must run campaigns on Sundays and other holidays to make the country cleaner and greener.

Paris was about 150 kilometres behind him when he saw the clouds. They were huge storm clouds. They looked like black mountains. He decided to take risk and flew the old Dakota straight into the storm. Everything became black. It was impossible to see anything outside. The old aeroplane jumped and twisted in the air. All instruments stopped functioning. The radio was dead too. He saw another aeroplane in the black clouds. It had no lights on its wings but he could see it flying next to him through the storm. He could see the pilot’s face. He turned his aeroplane slowly to the north. It became easier for him to follow the black aeroplane. After half an hour the strange black aeroplane was still there. Now there was only enough fuel in the old Dakota’s last tank to fly for five or ten minutes. He was starting to feel frightened again. Suddenly he came out of the clouds and saw two long straight lines of lights in front of him. It was the airport.

Answer. The policy of apartheid created a deep and lasting wound in his country and his people. He believed that they would have to spend many years to recover from the profound hurt. But the decades of oppression and brutality produced men of extra- ordinary courage, wisdom and generosity. It was from the comrades that he learnt the meaning of courage. He saw men and women sacrificing for an idea. He observed men endured attacks and torture without breaking, showing a strength and resilience. He learnt that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love. He believed, “Love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. He was of the opinion that man’s goodness is a flame that can be hidden but never extinguished. He had firm conviction that people were against discrimination and oppression. He had trust in humanity, affection and brotherhood.

The town was six miles from her village. The fare was thirty paise one way. The trip to the town took forty five minutes. On reaching town, if she stayed in her seat and paid another thirty paise, she could return home on the same bus. This meant that she could take the one o’clock afternoon bus, reach the town at one forty- five and be back by about two forty five. She calculated and recalculated.
